How It Works
How it works
It works the way a magnifying glass gathers sunlight to a point. Ultrasound is focused on one spot inside the skin, so a thermal coagulation point forms only there. No focus forms at the surface the energy passes through, so damage to the surface stays limited. Besides 4.5mm, where the fascia (SMAS) sits, the 3.0mm and 1.5mm layers are treated as well, which lets us approach a loosened layer on its own. As those coagulation points heal, collagen and elastin are produced again. That usually runs over two to three months.

- The treatment times, intervals and durations given here are the reference values we set out at the consultation. They can differ with the condition of the skin, the area and the session.
Mechanism
What it treats, and how
- 01
The focus depth is divided
4.5mm, where the fascia (SMAS) sits, is the layer that holds a loosened structure. 3.0mm covers the fat and the fibrous septa, and 1.5mm the dermis. We set the combination of depths by the layer that is producing the sagging.
- 02
We check the layers on screen, then apply
Before applying, we look at the layers under the skin on screen. The thickness of the fat layer and the position of the fascia differ from person to person, so the same depth can reach different tissue.
- 03
The healing response is what brings the change
A wound-healing response takes place where the thermal coagulation points have formed, and collagen and elastin are produced again in that process. Collagen renewal usually takes two to three months, so the change appears across that period too.
RECOMMENDED FOR
Who we suggest this for
Even if none of these apply, we look at your skin at the consultation first, then advise.
- If a jawline that is dropping with age is on your mind
- If you want to look at the overall change in lines and skin firmness together
- If your schedule leaves little room for recovery and you want a quick return to routine
- If you want to settle the look around the mouth where it has lost its lift
FAQ
Frequently asked about Ultherapy Prime
Will I see a difference straight after treatment?
Tissue does contract immediately after application, but most of the change appears over the two to three months in which collagen is produced again. We review progress with you at around 90 days.
How much does it hurt?
It is carried out after topical anaesthesia, and there can be a brief dull sensation when the deeper layers are treated. We keep the intensity within the range you set out at the consultation.
How often should it be repeated?
It depends on the area and the condition, but usually we examine you again after six to twelve months and decide then. We go by what the examination shows, not by the calendar.
