How It Works
How it works
Radiofrequency is delivered across the dermis to coagulate collagen, and new collagen forms as that site heals. It passes over the whole treatment area rather than a single point, so we use it when the contour has grown generally heavy. As the energy is delivered, the tip reads the surface temperature and cools the surface. That keeps the epidermis cooler while heat stays in the dermis, and we adjust the intensity during treatment to match what you feel. Sessions are not stacked at short intervals. After one application we watch the two to three months in which collagen forms again.

- About these figures
- The treatment times, intervals and durations given here are the reference values we set out at the consultation. They can differ with the condition of the skin, the area and the session.
Mechanism
What it treats, and how
- 01
It treats the dermis as a whole
Radiofrequency is delivered across the dermis to coagulate collagen. It passes over the whole treatment area rather than a single point, so we use it when the contour has grown generally heavy.
- 02
It cools the surface as it goes
As the energy is delivered, the tip cools the surface. That keeps the epidermis cooler while heat stays in the dermis. We lower or raise the intensity during treatment to match what you feel.
- 03
We judge two to three months later
The result is judged by the condition two to three months after application, not straight away. We check how long it holds before deciding on a further session, and we go by the examination rather than by how much time has passed.
RECOMMENDED FOR
Who we suggest this for
Even if none of these apply, we look at your skin at the consultation first, then advise.
- If the edge of the jawline feels blurred compared with before
- If pores are stretching lengthwise and the skin feels thinner
- If surgery feels like too much but you want to start on firmness care
- If your schedule leaves little room for recovery and you need a same-day return to routine
FAQ
Frequently asked about Thermage
How does it differ from Volnewmer?
Both deliver heat across the dermis with monopolar radiofrequency. Which one we use is decided by the condition of the skin, the area and the previous treatment history found at the examination.
How much does it hurt?
It is carried out after topical anaesthesia, and the tip cools the surface as the energy is delivered. We lower or raise the intensity during treatment to match what you feel.
When will I see the effect?
A tightening feeling can be there from straight after treatment. Collagen takes two to three months to form again, though, so the result is judged by the condition two to three months later.
